Snorri - Parametric Environment Scene

I have a lot to say about this scene, but I’ll try to keep it short.
Originally, it was meant to be a simple setup — just a way to showcase the character Snorri, whom I had worked on and developed. My main focus back then was character development. Was 🙂.

Well, I haven’t completely abandoned my passion for characters, but this scene opened new doors for me — in problem-solving, environment art, and pipeline development in general. To be honest, environment art means a lot to me because it gives me the opportunity to travel. Not only in the real world, where I can explore, take photos, gather references, learn new cultures, and new skills — but also through imagination.

Real travel is wonderful but expensive, and not all places are accessible — some because of political situations or conflicts, others because they’re thousands of meters above sea level (and I’m definitely not a professional climber 😄). Yet, there are also places from our dreams — some real, some imagined — places from the past, beautiful and nostalgic, and others from the future, full of wonder and mystery.

For me, environment art equals travelling.

To achieve consistency in that kind of work, I challenged myself to develop a flexible, organic system of procedural tools that I could tweak however I wanted — like plasticine or modeling clay, but digital. For this particular scene, I wanted to keep a stylized approach to support the look of the character. With the knowledge I had in Houdini (and still keep learning), I decided to take a step further and build the needed tools in Blender, so I could fill the scene with plants and a full environment systemically.

It took time, but it changed my path — leading me deeper into environment art and showing me how much more there is to learn (and how fun that journey can be).

This project isn’t the place to go into detail about the tools I developed — they’re really fun to play with, and I plan to share them on Superhive once I finish the tutorials.

The main reason I’m publishing this project as a standalone is because it represents a turning point for me — it inspired me to create stylized biomes using parametric systems. Since I used a branded character (Snorri), I’m not promoting or advertising my tools here out of respect for authorship and licensing. I always ask for permission when using external resources, and I follow the licensing rules carefully.

Thank you for taking the time to read!
If you’re interested, stop by from time to time — I’ll soon share more about the procedural tools and other projects I’m developing.

Happy artistic journey to all!
